Using a Wordfast glossary in CafeTran
  • Place the Wf glossary in the folder where you want to keep it permanently (e.g. in a special Glossary subfolder in your Dropbox or Documents folder).
  • From the Glossary menu choose Add glossary:

  • Set the Encoding to ‘UTF-16LE’ and the Entries separator to ‘Windows’.
  • Click the OK button.

By default the resource information (the name by which you can open the glossary later) corresponds with the name of the text file in the Path field of the Add glossary dialogue box. You can enter any meaningful name here (e.g. ‘Automotive (Wf legacy)’):

After you have clicked Save the new glossary is loaded in the tabbed pane below the Grid (top left) and the Translation Editor (top right):

  • You can add new term pairs to the glossary via the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+G) or by clicking the add term pair icon add_term_pair.png:

PLEASE NOTE: If you have added asterisks (*) to your Wf glossary (to enable stemming) you should replace them with pipes before you add the glossary to CafeTran. You can use Notepad++ (Windows, free), MS Word or TextWrangler (Mac, free) for this replacement.

TIP: If you don't want to enter pipes in individual entries of your glossary, you can instead save your terminology in a TMX file with prefix matching enabled. This setting will affect all entries in the whole TMX (for Terms) file.
